Listening to students talk about their experience as African, African American & Diaspora studies students and the desire to explore their history reminded me of why I am making this video. The diaspora is forgotten. The faces of color are ignored. We only have a chapter in textbooks, a day off for an activist’s life and the shortest month of the year. Filming and hearing stories about everyones’ path in learning about themselves has been reflective and empowering, disheartening and inspiring. But most of all it has been a reminder to myself that what I want to pursue beyond my Wheaton experience is meaningful.
